About Us
Encanto Men’s Club (EMC) events date back to the late 1930’s, soon after the state’s third oldest course opened to the public. Course Architect, William P. Bell designed an instant classic in what has become a vintage, player friendly municipal course. Encanto boasts palm tree lined, Bermuda fairways and bunker protected greens, representing the style of municipal links from that rich era in golf history.
Chartered in 1955 as a member golf club of the USGA, The Encanto Men’s Club has sponsored handicap flighted tournaments, every month for fifty-five years, providing local golfers of all ages challenging: individual, two-man and four-man events.
EMC membership hovers between 125 – 200 players per year, with an annual fee of $85.00 plus an optional annual fee of $5.00 for entry in the Hole in One Club. We host three Major Members Only Championships a year: The Club Match Play, Individual Stroke and the President’s Cup. Also, every fall we host an Annual Banquet, a fun-filled night open to all members.
The Encanto Cup, a “Ryder Cup” type tournament held each year in early summer was founded by EMC member Cleve Lynch. The event challenges the skills of members from Papago, Cave Creek, Maryvale and Encanto, in a gross and net point Championship. Winning Club takes the cup home for the year. The event rotates annually so each club hosts at their home course once every four years. This coveted tradition holds strong even today, where participating club members take great pride in being selected to their club’s team.
While higher slope and ratings course’s exist in Arizona today, few hold the heritage, longevity and traditions that Encanto embodies. The course invokes openness of play. Our men’s club adds to that quality the feeling of extended family, an easy natured camaraderie and one constant: each member plays out of a pure love for the game of golf.
